Help Someone Take the Next Steps in their Career

Become a City Mentor

Our mentors work with anyone from the NYC community to develop their resumes, LinkedIn profiles, or to hold information sessions on their industry.

  • You’ll be matched with your mentee soon after your initial meeting with ED Garri Rivkin. Once you receive the initial connecting email, you’ll reply all and so will your mentee; this will confirm the match. After your first meeting, any subsequent meetings are up to you and your mentee, based on what your mentee needs and what is comfortable for you. Once your mentee has indicated that they have had their need fulfilled, they’ll fill out an exit ticket, the results of which we’ll send to you, so that you can stay informed, empowered, and in position for your next relationship.

  • We offer a flexible, industry-specific service for our students, who often have competing priorities and life events outside of school. In offering such a flexible service, we find a that a majority of our mentees take advantage of the service multiple times, exploring career options and building their networks.

  • You are there to provide your expertise and experience to students, sharing your trajectory and advice for how to get involved with your industry. Mentors also conduct resume reviews, help mentees build their LinkedIn profiles, and conduct mock interviews. Mentorships are not the same as job interviews, and there is no expectation that you will help your mentee get a job or that you will open your contact list to them. Rather, mentees benefit from your professional experience and skills.

  • As mentees build their network, they gain valuable skills and insight into the careers and industries they are interested in. You help mentees gain confidence and build valuable networking skills while ensuring that their professional documents are well-developed and ready for use. Mentees who use our service report higher levels of confidence in interviews, job applications, and in their career search.

  • As a volunteer mentor, you’ll have access to our network of mentors, and we encourage you to take advantage of the service. You can build your network, explore other career opportunities, and speak to other professionals in your industry. Ultimately, we want our volunteers to feel like they are part of a community, and not just doing community service.
