The City Tutors Welcomes Vijay Kasarabada to Its Board of Directors to Help Expand NYC’s Free “Educational Subway”

The City Tutors (CT), a New York City–based nonprofit providing free, one-on-one tutoring and career mentoring to learners of all ages, is proud to announce that Vijay Kasarabada has joined its Board of Directors.

Vijay brings over two decades of leadership experience in technology and operations across global financial institutions. He has led enterprise technology and operations at Lazard Asset Management and BlackRock, held senior roles at Merrill Lynch, consulted early in his career at Goldman Sachs and J.P. Morgan, and most recently served as Chief Information Officer at Nuveen.

Vijay believes change starts early—with visible role models and practical skill-building—and it sticks when there’s a clear bridge to work. That’s City Tutors’ role: we help New Yorkers focus and upskill and connect them with industry insiders so they can create meaningful opportunities for themselves across many fields.

CT is building NYC’s free educational subway—digital rail lines powered by Chronus (an enterprise platform trusted by major universities and companies) plus neighborhood Open Stops that keep support local, in-person, and welcoming—so service reaches the edges of the city and stays inclusive for all ages.

“We’re aligning three commitments: simple access, trusted guidance, and local welcome. Vijay’s perspective sharpens how we scale each without losing the others,” said Garri Rivkin, Executive Director of The City Tutors.

“Education has the power to change trajectories. Through mentorship, we make that power accessible — one student, one conversation at a time. I’m honored to join the City Tutors board to help expand that bridge for learners across New York City”, said Vijay Kasarabada.
